White washing
As Americans, we're lucky to have the luxury of free speech. In other countries, dark, and sometimes embarrassing, events in history are softened even deleted. But I wonder how long will it last? Is there already some whitewashing going on in the US? In class, Mr. Bolos brought up that when he visited colonial Williamsburg, there were almost no African-American actors or employees. However, Williamsburg historically, had a high African-American population. What happened there?

I think that as long as a democratic state exists, we will have our freedom of speech. its sad that popele in various countries such as china dont have the right to speak their minds, and that everything that they publish is censored by the government. There may be some whitewashing in America, but i think it is on a smaller level than in other countries.
I find white washing very intersting. I think trying to hide history and past events should not happen. People should not be able to just pretend like horrific event have not happened.
Andrew,
This is a good starting point, but it seems to me there has always been whitewashing (yes, even in the U.S.).
If you agree, it might be a good idea to consider the ways in which this has occurred since our country's founding (Washington never told a lie?). Is it possible that part of the American story is that "it can't happen here"?
